Frequently Asked Questions
Does PEAss violate the PE EULA?
This is debatable. You might interpret the EULA in a way that it does, or doesn't. I have contacted MindArk|PE support
(some time ago already) and they have neither spoken out against it or gave it their blessing. Rest assured, that should
MA decide PEAss is not 'allowed' it will be clearly stated here. Furthermore, if it will be banned, MA would most likely
not ban you for it. They will give you a warning before banning you, so as long as MA doesn't contact you, I'd not worry
about it.
System requirements
The code itself requires Windows 2000 or newer with DirectX 9.0c. It might not work well on slower CPU's and video cards.
Performance impact
Memory impact should be around 20mb RAM max currently. Don't believe what Task Manager says,
it is notorious for reporting it wrong. Frame rate will likely drop a little - this depends
on your system. The older your videocard, the more the drop will be. It should never be more
than a 5 - 10 fps drop though unless you are running PE on a stone-age PC. For ATI cards,
the latest drivers seem to improve it. Either way, on the development machine it isn't even
noticable. If your card fully supports DirectX 9 in hardware (like the latest Nvidia cards),
you shouldn't see any frame rate drop at all (theoretically, untested). For the techsavvy:
the backbuffer is forced to refresh more often, which causes a tiny FPS drop. This is necessary
to let the windows be shown. Furthermore, older cards have trouble accelerating the GDI windows
when in a fullscreen D3D environment, which can cause a further FPS drop.
Very low framerate
Make sure you have the latest drivers (for ATI: at least Catalyst 8.16). If you have the latest
drivers and you still have a fairly low framerate after a few minutes ingame, try Alt-Tabbing
out of the game and then back in. Also make sure to have disabled the Alphablending option in
PEAss if you're seeing low FPS.
Crashes
One thing that causes crashes is PEAss trying to contact sites like MyTwoPecs.COM and your firewall
preventing this. As soon as you've set your firewall to allow this, this specific type of crash should
disappear. Note that installing a new version will most likely do the same thing again.
When PE cannot load (connection lost, etc) I cannot quite PE!
Try clicking on the loading screen with your left mouse button before pressing escape to quit.
The mouse doesn't click right in-game
First left click on PE itself (not on a PEAss window) and it should work correctly again. This issue should be mostly resolved but it could still happen.
The PEAss windows don't respond to input
If they have a gray caption area, they will not receive keyboard input, only mouse input. Left click on the window first.
I've been thrown out of PE and cannot get back in. Alt-Tab or clicking the PE taskbar button does nothing!
Close all windows that might have been opened by PEAss or PE when you got thrown out, then rightclick on the PEAss tray icon and select 'Unfreeze PE'. Then click on the PE taskbar button. This will usually get you back in.
How do I change the windows' transparency?
When your mouse is in the caption area of a window, middle click (or wheel-click) to switch between half-transparent and non-transparent. You can use the wheel to vary between those two. Alphablending needs to be enabled for this.
I cannot enter my GoldCard number
Click on the box where you need to input it first, then type.
